To report an error you have noticed on today's or tomorrow's Main Page, please add it to the appropriate section below.
Please note the following:
- Where is the error?: The more specific you can be (an exact item, for example "item number 3 on DYK"; or a sentence) the faster an admin can find it.
- Be specific: Errors can be fixed faster when a correction is offered.
- References: Can be helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
- Consensus: Remember that the Main Page usually defers to supporting pages for accuracy or when there is disagreement, so it is best to achieve consensus and make any necessary changes there first.
- Time zones: Note that Coordinated Universal Time is used for the current date and time (17:45 on 24 May 2012), and this may not coincide with your local time zone.
- Should I use {{edit protected}}?: No. Using {{edit protected}} here will not give you a faster response, and in fact breaks the template when it is placed directly on the Main Page Errors page instead of on a talk page.
- Done?: Once an error has been fixed, the error report will be removed from this page; please check the page's history to verify that the error has been rectified and for any other comments the administrator may have made.
- No chit-chat: Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere.

A new item should be added to Template:In the news by Thursday, 24 May 2012 12:32 (UTC). This template will turn yellow if not reset by that time and red twelve hours after. Current time: 17:45, May 24, 2012 (UTC) () Last updated: 17 hours ago. (verify · reset · purge) |
[edit] Robin Gibb
(not strictly speaking an error, and also noted at ITN/C, but attention there after posting tends to be low) The Bee Gees were not a line up that went through multiple changes, and membership was determined by birth (they were a literal band of brothers): in that situation, the phrasing that would be appropriate for most bands (founding member of) seems ill fitting. Even founding, rather than founder, member jars somewhat on these UK Eng educated ears. Kevin McE (talk) 06:17, 21 May 2012 (UTC)
- I agree. Removed "founding", but it now reads a bit oddly... — foxj 14:39, 21 May 2012 (UTC)
Placed at top of the scroll list to persist, quite rightly for the next few days. The man was a legend in the music industry. Why not the same treatment for Donna Summer? She was seminal in Disco and had major hits. Amy Winehouse was kept up for days and days and days and days AS WELL with her picture for days and days and days and days. Why the discrepancy???? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.28.120.89 (talk) 13:45, 21 May 2012 (UTC)
- Isn't the reason for the discrepencies obvious? Donna Summer was an American while Robin Gibb and Amy Winehouse were not. --71.96.131.240 (talk) 14:01, 21 May 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, we all hate the Americans and everything they stand for, etc, etc. Amy Winehouse's picture was up on the Main Page for less than one day. There has been a fair amount of news, including in this case an unusually high amount of notable, sudden deaths. — foxj 14:36, 21 May 2012 (UTC)
- I would also add that we sort items by date, not by importance. — foxj 14:39, 21 May 2012 (UTC)
- No Winehouse's picture was up for two weeks. To be fair, Witney Houston and Etta James were up for a long time. Just not consistent. The Lockerbie bomber is going to be up for days as his entry scrolls down so why not something balanced, life affirming? Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau too. 188.28.120.89 (talk) 16:04, 21 May 2012 (UTC)
- ...No, it was up for 23 hours. Honest. It's hard to be consistent when news is not. — foxj 17:04, 21 May 2012 (UTC)

- Fixed. (Granted, to me as an expat living in Australia, yesterday was the 21st...) — foxj 17:47, 21 May 2012 (UTC)
[edit] Abdelbaset al-Megrahi
Instead of "Abdelbaset al-Megrahi, convicted in 2001 in connection with the Lockerbie bombing" it should read "Abdelbaset al-Megrahi, the only person convicted in connection with the Lockerbie bombing,". Thanks. Lugnuts (talk) 10:51, 23 May 2012 (UTC)
- I don't really agree that that adds anything to the blurb other than perhaps make it longer? — foxj 16:35, 23 May 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Errors in today's or tomorrow's On this day...
- Putting aside completely the issue of who's right and who's wrong on the issue, does the release of An Inconvenient Truth really rate inclusion here? If yes, then what other documentaries on push-button issues should have their release anniversaries listed on the main page? Assuming the best about the film, it still doesn't belong here. TJSwoboda (talk) 03:15, 24 May 2012 (UTC)
- Agreed, its just not notable enough to be put alongside a World War II battle and the creation of the Cyrillic alphabet. If it was a movie that had some kind of established historical importance, ie, Birth of a Nation, Gone with the Wind or even Camerons Titanic, that would be something else, but I don't think An Inconvenient Truth has established that kind of importance.--Dudeman5685 (talk) 04:47, 24 May 2012 (UTC)

- Agreed. I think it should be replaced by the Kola Superdeep Borehole item in the holding area. Modest Genius talk 11:55, 24 May 2012 (UTC)
