Étienne-Émile Baulieu

Etienne-Emile Baulieu (ur. 12 grudnia 1926 w Strasburgu we Francji) - francuski lekarz, biochemik i endokrynolog pochodzenia żydowskiego. Emerytowany profesor nauk medycznych.

Biografia

Był dyrektorem Research Unit w INSERM, oraz profesorem biochemii na Wydziale Medycyny Bicêtro Uniwersytetu Paryskiego. W latach 2003 i 2004 sprawował funkcję prezydenta we Francuskiej Akademii Nauk. Zajmuje się badaniami nad hormonami steroidowymi i ich funkcją w procesie starzenia się organizmu, rozrodczości i procesach nowotworowych. Odkrywca produkowanego przez nadnercza hormonu DHEA i jego roli w procesie starzenia się mózgu. Wynalazł wczesnoporonną pigułkę RU-486. Laureat wielu międzynarodowych nagród i wyróżnień, m.in.:

• doctor honoris causa Tufts University w Bostonie;
• doctor honoris causa University of Gandawa;
• doctor honoris causa Karolinska Institutet w Sztokholmie

Kawaler Legii Honorowej.
